McLaughlin Joins NYSHEI Board

Pamela Whiteley McLaughlin has joined the NYSHEI Governing Board.

Ms. McLaughlin has been appointed pursuant to the bylaws to temporarily fill the seat vacated by Bill Garrison who has resigned. Mr. Garrison, the Deputy University Librarian/Associate Dean of Libraries at Syracuse University Library will leave New York State this month and become the Dean of Libraries at the University of South Florida. We all wish Bill the best of luck in his new position.

Ms. McLaughlin is Director of Communications and External Relations at the Syracuse University Library. She serves as liaison to SU News Services, local and library media outlets, and is a member of SU’s Council on University Communications. Pamela’s previous positions at SU have included Director of Digital Library Development and Head of Access and Digital Services. She has a long-standing relationship with the Syracuse University School of Information Studies as an adjunct faculty member, liaison librarian, and alumni association member. She was recently named executive director of the New York Center for the Book, an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book based at Syracuse University.

Pamela has an extensive record of university, community, and professional service. Of particular note, she was the 2006-2007 chair of the Nylink Council Executive Committee, has chaired Central New York Library Resources Council (CLRC) committees, and is a member of the board of the CNY Reads Consortium. She has also been a frequent conference presenter, having given presentations for ALA, CLRC, Eastern New York ACRL, NYLA, Nylink, the Onondaga County Public Library, and a number of other 3Rs Councils.

Pamela and husband Brian McLaughlin are parents of three grown children. Pamela is also a professional singer and has performed widely in the Central New York area as a soloist and member of the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble.

NYSHEI is pleased to welcome Ms. McLaughlin to represent the Very Large category of NYSHEI members. We look forward to her expertise and energy.

This summer an election will be held to determine representation for this seat for a full three-year term.
